DECEMBER 7TH - ZORA PAYNE - ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOP

The meeting was opened with some announcements from our Vice Chair, Judith Sullivan, who went on to introduce Malcolm Hall. Malcolm described the activities of the Saturday Craft Market in Briton House, Redditch and invited members to visit and to display their work. Zora Payne was then introduced to give an 'Illustration Workshop'; Zora is a local artist, illustrator and art lecturer and a well-known member of the Art Circle.

Pencils and paper were distributed and the audience invited to reproduce the image of a sinister face that Zora had drawn. We were then shown how some subtle alterations could change the character of the face. Many other effects were illustrated and reference made to the many examples of her work that Zora had brought along. Of particular interest were the atmospheric illustrations for some books relating stories of the supernatural in Worcestershire. Much more information followed, on materials and techniques as well as the challenges and frustrations of her work. Finally, Zora constructed a Christmas Greetings illustration directed at the audience; this was a fitting finish to a very entertaining presentation and to a very successful year.
